07.01.16: Car Wishlist Models Too Specific

Forza 6 Ford GT at Bathurst

If you've had a look at my Forza 6 Car Wishlist data sheet then you will have seen that the manufacturer table doesn't list car requests in much detail. If you've had a look at the Forza forums car wishlist thread then you'll know that the vast majority of car requests are specified in great detail with not only make, model and year of manufacture but also specific variants within a manufacturer's production run.

This may work well on the wishlist thread but it's a nightmare for a statistical analysis because of the unmanageably huge variety. I sampled a little more than 1900 car requests from the wishlist thread and among this group there were about 1600 individual model specifications which couldn't be put together in larger groups. When I ran the grouping routine I ended up with a long list of model variants which would've taken me forever just to scroll through.

It wasn't long before I abandoned my endeavor to list any model variants in favor of a determination to focus on the list of manufacturers. Maybe you think this was a trival problem for a solitary Forza fan but look at it from the developer's point of view. I expect that T10 are faced with the same problem whenever they look at the wishlist thread; the sheer variety of car requests make it impractical to take them very seriously.

Without wishing to offend anyone here I suggest that you should either simplify your car requests or abandon any hope of having T10 take the wishlist thread seriously.
